::: Sooo....WHY SHOULD YOU WEAR VINTAGE? :::

Ever since I was a small child, probably around the age of 4, I can remember wearing vintage…
My mom was never one for shopping malls, or mass-produced merchandise. She would rather take my sister and I to the local Goodwill shops and Salvation Army stores near our home. How I would get lost within the large, metal racks, stuffed with flowing dresses and gossamer gowns, dreaming about someday wearing one of those creations… Allowed to chose a few pieces of our own, I often went straight for the pants and jeans section… How I adored those wide leg, bell-bottoms and worn, leather belts to go with them.
However, my passion was the vintage tees. I would slowly sift through each tee as if it were a single treasure… My eyes would light up just looking at the sparkling and glittery letters, iron-on logos, dazzling holograms, each being the softest cotton/polyester blend that I had ever felt! Every trip to the thrift store was like a new adventure and reminiscing about those days brings back so many fond memories…
Years later, I still have a lust for all things vintage… I am fortunate to be educated in both Interior Design and Art Therapy… However, I feel more confident and most comfortable with my degree as a certified Fashionsta! Rarely do I browse through fashion magazines for inspiration. I do not attend runway shows in big cities, nor do I shop high-end boutiques with pricey labels… {Probably should do these things though…} My desire is to frequent thrift stores, consignment shops, antique galleries, and swap meets with a hot coffee in hand and do what I have always done best… Browse for hours, within the overstuffed racks of amazing, vintage clothing in search of that one, perfect treasure. Or, if I’m lucky, even a few! Each item I purchase is carefully, hand inspected, hand selected, and hand picked by me…

So… Why wear vintage???
There are many reasons… Let’s just look at a few:::
Quite often I see guys and girls wearing clothing that have that “vintage look “ to it. You’ve seen the look… “Worn out”, “has been”, creased jeans with rips and holes, frayed tees with old logos of places and times, etc… I want to pull them aside gently and offer them some much needed advice…STOP! Be authentic and be yourself…
I realize that many people do not have the necessary time to travel to vintage shops or frequent antique stores and flea markets. However, there is a solution… The world-wide-web is filled with vintage boutiques the fit everyone’s price range… All it takes is an open mind and a positive attitude…
Okay, okay… Let’s get to the point, shall we… So why in the world should you wear vintage?

VINTAGE IS UNIQUE:::

Just think about how many other people are buying that, same, exact shirt you are buying from the local mall… It comes in all sizes from small to large so that everyone can have one. When you wear vintage, you will not see that same piece on someone else, or anywhere else… Many vintage items are the only one left in the world! These pieces are often one-of-a-kind, even handmade… Dating back to the beginning of the 1920’s and on. A unique piece of clothing on you, allows you to express your individuality. Define yourself… Proclaim your style… Wear vintage!

VINTAGE IS INSPIRING:::

Think fashion icons and designers… Artists and muses…
It’s no secret that vintage apparel inspires many of today’s current fashions.
All things go back to vintage things.

When you wear vintage, buy vintage or sell vintage, you are doing your part to help the environment. Period. Vintage clothing is recycled and worn again and again. No harmful products are being generated, no manufacturing plants are being used, and no waste is being put in the trash can…

I adore finding a piece of clothing that has been cherished in the past… However, what I love even more, is wearing it! From tattered, silk scarves to gossamer gowns … tailored trousers to decadent, fur coats. Vintage clothing has a history… Vintage clothing tells a story… Vintage clothing has lived a life…
I am proud to wear something from the past that has survived decades and has found it’s way to the present and someday the future…

VINTAGE IS QUALITY:::

How often I find a cashmere sweater from the 1950’s… Sometimes simplified with dainty, little buttons or glamorous to the max, embellished with sparking beadwork and rhinestones… I feel the softness, admire the details and respect the quality… A quality which in incomparable to the cashmere sweaters of today… Much of our clothing is mass-produced and not even by people, but machines! The clones of our society may settle for this… However, vintage pieces were created differently. They were made to withstand the tests of time… In tailoring, fit, expertise, design, details and quality…

VINTAGE IS INVESTMENT:::

Chances are… the vintage piece that you have purchased is no longer being produced… Not a chance, more like a guarantee… This makes your item more desirable and over time will continue to increase in value. While some vintage finds are not very collectable, many pieces are! From 60’s Levi’s bellbottom jeans…to 70’s Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dresses and 80’s Etienne Angier leather handbags… Each of these treasures are being more and more impossible to find… Vintage not only holds it’s value, but increases in value as well…
